Delightful Norwegian Kringla are sweet, crunchy cookies shaped into pretzels with a hint of vanilla and almond flavor, perfect for holidays or teatime treats.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Mix eggs and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Add sour cream and mix well.
  3. Stir in vanilla and almond flavoring.
  4. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Add to egg mixture gradually, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Chill, covered, for several hours to overnight.
  7. Remove 1/4 of the dough at a time from refrigerator.
  8. Shape by teaspoonfuls into 7-inch ropes.
  9. Shape as for pretzels on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  10. Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes or until light brown.
  11. Store between layers of paper towels in an airtight container.
