Nut-Date-Crumb Cake

Instructions
- Mix flour, sugar, and margarine as for pie dough.
- Remove 1 cup of the mixture and set aside for topping.
- Chop dates and nuts, then mix with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and a pinch of salt.
- Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
- Combine the remaining flour mixture with the date and nut mixture and the buttermilk mixture to form the batter.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture on top.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
