- Cut the acorn squash in half and remove the seeds.
- Mix cracker crumbs, chopped pecans or walnuts, melted butter, brown sugar, salt, and nutmeg.
- Spoon one-quarter of the mixture into each squash half.
- Place the stuffed squash in an ungreased baking dish measuring 13 1/2 x 9 x 2 inches.
- Season the cut sides of the squash with salt and butter.
- Pour water into the dish to a depth of 1/4 inch.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake in a 400°F oven for 30 minutes or until the squash is tender.
