Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1/4 cup toasted hazelnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 medium egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix together the shredded Cheddar cheese and butter until well combined.
  3. Add the plain flour, toasted hazelnuts, and 2 tablespoons of cold water to the mixture.
  4. Mix until the mixture comes together to form a dough.
  5. Break off walnut-sized pieces of dough and roll each into long, thin sausage shapes about 5 inches long.
  6. Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes.
  8. Brush the baked straws with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for an additional 6 to 8 minutes, until golden brown.
