Ingredients

  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup scalded milk
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 3 1/4 to 4 cups flour
  • butter

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water and let it activate.
  2. Combine quick oats, shortening, salt, brown sugar, scalded milk, and beaten eggs in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the activated yeast and gradually mix in 3 1/4 to 4 cups of flour to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread with 1/4 cup butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into individual buns.
  7. Place the buns in a greased baking dish, let them rise again until puffy, about 30 minutes.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm, optionally drizzled with melted butter or icing.
