Ola'S Chocolate Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • FOR CAKE:
  • 1/2 lb unsalted butter
  • 1/2 c Crisco shortening
  • 3 c sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3 c flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 c cocoa
  • 1 c milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • FOR FROSTING:
  • 4 oz Scharffenberger 60% chocolate

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. FOR CAKE:
  3. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar in mixing bowl on medium speed. Add eggs one at a time. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk in four portions while mixing on medium speed. Add vanilla and mix until all ingredients blended. Do not overmix.
  4. Pour batter in greased floured tubular pound cake pan. Bake at 325 for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Cool completely before inverting onto cooling rack.
  5. FOR FROSTING:
  6. Melt butter and chocolate together over low heat. Add vanilla. Mound box of 10X sugar in large mixing bowl and create a well in center. Pour melted mixture into center of well and stir well. Add milk and stir/mix vigorously until smooth and creamy. Pour over cooled cake and let frosting slowly run down sides of cake.
