Ingredients

  • 1/2 gal. milk
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk over low heat, being careful not to scorch.
  2. Beat the eggs and set aside.
  3. Mix the sugar and flour together and add to the eggs, then beat well.
  4. Add 2 cups of the scalded milk to the egg and sugar mixture and mix thoroughly.
  5. Pour this mixture back into the pan with the remaining milk.
  6. Stir constantly to prevent lumps and cook over medium heat until the custard begins to thicken.
  7. Remove from heat and cool the custard.
  8. Add the vanilla extract before serving.
