- Scald the milk over low heat, being careful not to scorch.
- Beat the eggs and set aside.
- Mix the sugar and flour together and add to the eggs, then beat well.
- Add 2 cups of the scalded milk to the egg and sugar mixture and mix thoroughly.
- Pour this mixture back into the pan with the remaining milk.
- Stir constantly to prevent lumps and cook over medium heat until the custard begins to thicken.
- Remove from heat and cool the custard.
- Add the vanilla extract before serving.
