Ingredients

  • 1 cup oleo
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons orange peel
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1 pound dates
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, butter, flour, eggs, and orange peel. Beat until fluffy.
  2. Mix soda into buttermilk and add to the batter.
  3. Stir in coconut, nuts, and chopped dates.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 300 to 325°F for 50-60 minutes.
  6. Serve in squares with whipped topping or ice cream.
