Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage (about 3 lb.)
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz.)
  • 1 can whole tomatoes (8 oz.)
  • 1 cup herb seasoned stuffing mix
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cut a slice from the top of the cabbage and remove the inside, leaving a 3/4-inch shell.
  2. Reserve the inside of the cabbage for cole slaw. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Cook and stir ground beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat until light brown.
  4. Drain the cooked ground beef.
  5. Stir in 1/2 cup tomato sauce, the whole tomatoes with liquid, stuffing mix, chopped onion, and salt.
  6. Break up the whole tomatoes with a spoon inside the mixture.
  7. Fill the cabbage shell with the beef and tomato mixture.
  8. Place the stuffed cabbage in a Dutch oven.
  9. Mix the remaining tomato sauce with water and pour around the cabbage in the Dutch oven.
  10. Bake for about 45 minutes.
  11. Remove the cabbage from the oven and cut into 6 wedges.
  12. Spoon hot tomato sauce over the wedges before serving.
