Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups flour (Swans Down)
  • 2 sticks butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon flavoring (any flavor)
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar, butter, and margarine together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternately add flour and milk to the mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
  4. Add flavoring and mix well.
  5. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter gently.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
  8. Reduce temperature to 300°F and bake for an additional 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
