- Dissolve yeast in 1 tablespoon sugar and warm tap water in a large measuring cup.
- Measure dry ingredients including 1/3 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, and 3 teaspoons baking powder.
- When yeast is dissolved, add dry ingredients and 5 cups of flour.
- Beat until smooth.
- Mix in enough remaining flour (3 cups) to make dough easy to handle.

- Turn the greased side up.
- Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until double in size.
