Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 2/3 cup vinegar
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons liquid smoke (hickory-flavored)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • dash of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan over high heat and whisk until smooth.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 45 minutes or until thick.
  3. Cool the sauce, then store in a covered container in the refrigerator overnight.
