Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped black olives
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup grated sharp cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • dash of Tabasco sauce
  • dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper
  • party rye bread

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, egg yolk, mustard, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the olives, onion, and cheese.
  3. Pour the sauce over the olive mixture and stir until well blended.
  4. Refrigerate the mixture if making ahead, stirring before spreading.
  5. Place squares of rye bread on a baking sheet and toast under the broiler until lightly browned.
  6. Remove from the oven and flip the bread slices over.
  7. Spread the vegetable-cheese mixture on top of each bread slice, covering to the edges.
  8. Return to the broiler and heat for about 3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve immediately.
