Ingredients

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
  • 3 tbsp. water
  • 1/2 pint whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff.
  2. Gradually add sugar and vanilla to the egg whites, then fold in chopped pecans.
  3. Pour the meringue mixture into an 8-inch greased pie pan, molding the sides to form a shell.
  4. Bake at 300°F for 35 minutes until golden and set.
  5. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate with water and allow to cool.
  6. Whip the heavy cream until thick.
  7. Fold the cooled chocolate into the whipped cream and vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the chocolate-cream mixture into the cooled meringue pie shell.
  9. Chill the pie before serving.
