Tips & Substitutions

For best results, make sure your shortening and peanut butter are at room temperature before creaming them together. If you're out of shortening, you can substitute it with an equal amount of unsalted butter. To enhance the flavor, consider adding a pinch of salt or a dash of cinnamon. If you prefer a different chocolate center, try using caramel-filled candies instead of chocolate kisses.

Serving Suggestions

Peanut Butter Blossoms are delightful on their own but can also be paired with a glass of cold milk or a warm cup of coffee for a comforting treat. For a fun dessert platter, serve them alongside Ginger Cookies or Buttermilk Corn Bread. These cookies can also be dressed up for parties by drizzling melted chocolate or sprinkling with sea salt before serving.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, you can freeze the cookies by placing them in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transferring them to a freezer-safe bag once solid. To enjoy, simply thaw at room temperature or warm in the microwave for a few seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use natural peanut butter in this recipe?

Yes, you can use natural peanut butter, but be aware that it may result in a slightly different texture. Natural peanut butter can be runnier, which might affect the dough consistency. You may need to adjust the flour slightly to achieve the right dough thickness.

How can I make these cookies gluten-free?

To make Peanut Butter Blossoms gluten-free, substitute the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. Ensure that the blend contains xanthan gum, or add it separately according to the package instructions to help the cookies maintain their structure.

What can I use instead of chocolate kisses?

If you want to switch up the chocolate kisses, you can use other types of candy, such as Rolos, peanut butter cups, or even caramel candies. Just make sure the substitutes fit well in the cookie center and complement the peanut butter flavor.
