Ingredients

  • 2 lb ripe pears, cut into pieces
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  3. Toss the pear pieces with lemon juice.
  4. Cream 1/2 cup butter with 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add beaten eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Sift together flour and baking powder.
  7. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  8. Stir in almond extract.
  9. Spread the thick batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  10. Top the batter with the pear mixture.
  11. Sprinkle 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup sugar over the pears.
  12. Sprinkle slivered almonds on top.
  13. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
