Ingredients

  • 1 pkg yellow cake mix
  • 2/3 cup yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup soft margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

  1. Mix the cake mix (reserve 2/3 cup), softened margarine, and 1 egg until the mixture is moist. Press this mixture flat into a 13 x 9-inch pan.
  2. Bake the crust for 15 to 20 minutes at 350°F until lightly browned.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, remaining eggs, and vanilla together.
  4. Add the corn syrup and the reserved 2/3 cup of dry cake mix to the sugar mixture, stirring well.
  5. Gently fold in the chopped pecans.
  6. Pour this pecan filling over the baked crust.
  7. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes at 350°F until the filling is set.
  8. Allow the bars to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
