Peppernuts (Pfeffernusse)
Ingredients
- 1 pint dark corn syrup ⓘ
- 1/2 lb brown sugar ⓘ
- 1/2 lb shortening ⓘ
- 2 eggs ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon baking soda ⓘ
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon allspice ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon clove
- 1/2 teaspoon anise oil ⓘ
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom ⓘ
- 1/4 cup almonds, ground
- 1/2 cup ground walnuts ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons lemon zest ⓘ
- 9 cups flour
Instructions
- Mix everything together.
- Roll in to balls the size of large marbles.
- bake on cookie sheets, 325F for 15 minutes or so.
