Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, vegetable shortening, sugar, and salt with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles pea-sized crumbs.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix vinegar, egg, and cold water.
  3. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring with a fork until all ingredients are moistened.
  4. Form the dough into a large ball.
  5. Divide the dough into four equal smaller balls.
  6. Chill the dough balls in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before rolling.
  7. Use as needed for pie baking, and store in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
