A rich, flavorful homemade pizza sauce made with fresh tomatoes, onions, herbs, and spices, perfect for creating delicious pizzas for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 8 qt. tomato juice or 1/2 bushel tomatoes
  • 3 lb. onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 4 hot peppers or 1 tsp. red pepper
  • 2 cups salad oil
  • 2 Tbsp. basil leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. oregano
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 (12 oz.) cans tomato paste

Instructions

  1. Cook the tomatoes until soupy, approximately 3 hours.
  2. Add the chopped onions, salt, hot peppers or red pepper, salad oil, basil leaves, oregano, and sugar.
  3. Cook for 1 hour.
  4. Add the tomato paste and stir well.
  5. Put the sauce in jars and cook for 20 minutes.
