Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. chopped dates
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 1 c. margarine
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chocolate chips
  • chopped nuts or additional chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine the dates and hot water; cool and set aside.
  2. Cream together the margarine, sugar and eggs.
  3. Sift the flour, baking soda and salt and add gradually.
  4. Stir in date mix to flour mix. Add the vanilla and 1/2 cup chocolate chips.
  5. Spread batter in greased 10 x 15-inch pan.
  6. Sprinkle batter with chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
  7. Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
