Ingredients

  • 4 c. whole-wheat flour
  • 2 c. dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix whole-wheat flour, dark brown sugar, salt, and baking soda together in a bowl.
  3. Add buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into greased and floured 8-ounce coffee cans, filling each half full.
  5. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from cans and cool before slicing and serving.
