Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 egg, beaten until light
  • 3/4 cup broken nut meats or part dates and part nut meats

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Ensure all ingredients are about 75°F (24°C).
  3. Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  4. Add the melted butter and beat to combine.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the milk with the egg until light.
  6. Pour the liquid mixture into the sifted ingredients and mix well.
  7. Fold in the broken nut meats or part dates and part nut meats.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  9. Bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
