- Stir the lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast together in a small bowl.
- Let the yeast mixture stand in a warm place.
- In a large bowl, beat together the egg, 1 cup of lukewarm water, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 Tbsp melted margarine, and 3/4 tsp salt.
- Stir in the yeast mixture.
- Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the last cup of flour by hand.
- Divide the dough and place it into two greased loaf pans.
- Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in bulk, about an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the loaves for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the pans immediately.
