Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 packet (1/4 oz.) yeast
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. melted margarine
  • 3/4 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Stir the lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast together in a small bowl.
  2. Let the yeast mixture stand in a warm place.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the egg, 1 cup of lukewarm water, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 Tbsp melted margarine, and 3/4 tsp salt.
  4. Stir in the yeast mixture.
  5. Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Mix in the last cup of flour by hand.
  7. Divide the dough and place it into two greased loaf pans.
  8. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in bulk, about an hour.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake the loaves for 30 minutes.
  11. Remove from the pans immediately.
