Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup sweet milk
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 yeast cake dissolved in water

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the dissolved yeast in water, sweet milk, and buttermilk; mix well.
  4. Put the dough in a bowl and store in the fridge for some time.
  5. Roll the dough very thin and cut with a biscuit cutter.
  6. Dip each biscuit in melted butter and place a double layer in a greased pan.
  7. Let the biscuits rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  8. Bake at 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
