- Blend eggs, salt, and sugar with a wire whip.
- Add vanilla and milk to the egg mixture.
- Break the French bread into medium-sized pieces in a bowl.
- Pour melted butter over the bread and toss to coat.
- Arrange the coated bread in a Pyrex baking dish.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the dish.
- Place the dish in a larger pan of water with at least an inch of water in the pan.
- Ensure water is well up around the dish.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
- Serve with lemon sauce or whiskey sauce.
