Rich and comforting bread pudding with custardy texture, infused with vanilla and complemented by toasted pecans, perfect for a cozy dessert or brunch treat.

Ingredients

  • 8 eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 lb. French bread
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/4 c. toasted pecans

Instructions

  1. Blend eggs, salt, and sugar with a wire whip.
  2. Add vanilla and milk to the egg mixture.
  3. Break the French bread into medium-sized pieces in a bowl.
  4. Pour melted butter over the bread and toss to coat.
  5. Arrange the coated bread in a Pyrex baking dish.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the dish.
  7. Place the dish in a larger pan of water with at least an inch of water in the pan.
  8. Ensure water is well up around the dish.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
  10. Serve with lemon sauce or whiskey sauce.
