Ingredients

  • 2 gallons cucumber rings
  • 8 1/2 quarts water
  • 2 cups dehydrated lime
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 small bottle red cake coloring
  • 1 tablespoon alum
  • 2 cups vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 10 cups sugar

Instructions

  1. Bring water, dehydrated lime, vinegar, red cake coloring, and alum to a boil.
  2. Pour the hot mixture over the cucumber rings.
  3. Let stand overnight.
  4. Drain the juice from the pickles.
  5. Heat the drained juice again for three mornings.
  6. Put the pickles in jars and seal.
