Ingredients

  • 2 cups semi-sweet morsels
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt one cup of semi-sweet morsels, sugar, applesauce, and margarine in a large saucepan over low heat until smooth.
  3. Remove the pan from heat; add egg whites and stir well.
  4. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract.
  5. Stir in remaining morsels and chopped nuts.
  6. Spread the mixture into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 16 to 20 minutes.
  8. Cool and cut into squares.
