Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and baking soda.
  2. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in raisins.
  4. Add buttermilk and stir just until moistened.
  5. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead 4 to 5 times.
  6. Roll into 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 2-1/2 inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place biscuits with sides barely touching on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-17 minutes or until golden brown.
