Ingredients

  • 5 to 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt; mix well.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk, water, and margarine until warm (120° to 130°).
  3. Add the warm mixture to the flour mixture, then add eggs.
  4. Blend on low until moistened.
  5. Beat for 3 minutes at medium speed.
  6. By hand, stir in raisins and enough of the remaining flour to make a firm dough.
  7. Knead on a floured surface for 5 to 8 minutes.
  8. Place in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  9. Punch down the dough and divide into 2 parts.
