Ingredients

  • 2 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. melted shortening
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 3 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1 c. dusted raisins

Instructions

  1. Mix together brown sugar, melted shortening, and well-beaten egg yolks.
  2. Combine flour, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, and baking soda in a separate bowl.
  3. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and sour milk into the egg yolk mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Gently fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and raisins into the batter.
