Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups unsifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water and yeast; let it stand until foamy.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk, sugar, salt, and margarine until warm and margarine melts.
  3. Mix the milk mixture with the yeast mixture.
  4. Add egg and vanilla, then gradually stir in flour to form a soft dough.
  5. Knead the dough until smooth, then cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  6. Divide the dough into 4 portions and roll each into a rectangle.
  7. Spread a filling of choice over each rectangle and roll up tightly.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
