Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease and flour three 8-inch round layer pans.
  3. In a large mixer bowl, mix butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until fluffy.
  4. Beat for 5 minutes on high speed, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  5. On low speed, mix in flour, baking powder, and salt, alternately with milk.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before frosting or serving.
