- Cream shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually blend in the sifted flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt until dough forms.
- Chill dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease baking sheets.
- Combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Shape dough into small balls and dip them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating evenly.
- Place coated dough balls on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and cool slightly before transferring to wire racks.
