Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Gradually blend in the sifted flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt until dough forms.
  4. Chill dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease baking sheets.
  6. Combine 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Shape dough into small balls and dip them into the cinnamon-sugar mixture, coating evenly.
  8. Place coated dough balls on prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until lightly golden.
  10. Remove from oven and cool slightly before transferring to wire racks.
