  • 1 large cantaloupe
  • 2 large pears
  • 1 large apple
  • 2 peaches
  • 3 plums
  • 1/2 cup red grapes
  • 1/2 cup white grapes
  • 1 cup wine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons gelatine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Peel, seed, and cube the apples, peaches, plums, and pears; slice the grapes in half.
  2. Place all the prepared fruits in a large bowl and mix with 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  3. Cut a slice off the top of the cantaloupe large enough to remove the seeds with a spoon.
  4. Remove the seeds from the cantaloupe and fill it with the mixed fruits, pressing gently to fit.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat the wine and remaining sugar until the sugar dissolves; add the gelatine and mix well until fully dissolved; then add vanilla.
  6. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then pour it over the fruits inside the cantaloupe.
  7. Refrigerate for 2-4 hours or until well chilled and the gelatine is set.
  8. Cut the cantaloupe into halves and then slice into serving portions.
  9. Serve chilled as a colorful and flavorful fruit dessert.

Tips & Substitutions

For a sweeter flavor, you can substitute honey for sugar or use a mix of seasonal fruits. If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, replace the wine with grape juice. Make sure to dissolve the gelatine completely to avoid any lumps, and consider chilling the mixed fruit for 30 minutes before filling the cantaloupe for enhanced flavor.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the stuffed cantaloupe as a refreshing dessert at summer gatherings or alongside a light brunch. It pairs beautifully with Vegetable Salad Mold or can be enjoyed on its own. Garnish with mint leaves for added freshness, and consider serving with a scoop of sorbet for an extra treat.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover stuffed cantaloupe can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Avoid freezing as the texture may change. When ready to serve, simply cut the cantaloupe into portions without needing to reheat, as it is best enjoyed chilled.
