Beef rouladen offers tender, flavorful rolls filled with bacon, onions, and pickles, baked to perfection with a creamy sour cream sauce—perfect for hearty family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. sliced lean beef (round or flank steak)
  • 1 tsp. prepared mustard
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup chopped raw bacon
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped dill pickle

Instructions

  1. Pound meat slices with a steak mallet to 3 x 4 inches.
  2. Spread mustard thinly over the meat slices.
  3. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, chopped pickles, chopped bacon, and chopped onions.
  4. Roll up the meat slices and secure with skewers or kitchen string.
  5. Brown the rolls in butter in a skillet.
  6. Place the browned rolls seam side down in a roaster with a small amount of water.
  7. Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until tender.
  8. Add sour cream before serving.
