Juicy round steak rolls filled with crunchy cracker and onion mixture, slow-cooked to tender perfection, ideal for hearty family dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. round steak
  • 1 package saltine crackers
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Roll out saltine crackers to make crumbs and mix with finely chopped onion, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cut the round steak into 4 x 6-inch pieces.
  3. Fill each steak piece with the cracker mixture and a strip of ham fat or bacon about 1 inch thick.
  4. Roll up the steak with the filling and secure with toothpicks.
  5. Brown the steak rolls in a heavy frying pan.
  6. Add a little water and simmer the rolls for about 1 hour.
  7. Add more water if necessary during cooking.
  8. If there are leftover cracker crumbs, add them to the pan when the steak is done to thicken the sauce into gravy.
