Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. scalded milk
  • 3/4 c. white sugar
  • 1/4 c. melted margarine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cardamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. glazed mixed fruit
  • 1/2 c. glazed cherries
  • 6 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle yeast onto warm water and dissolve.
  2. In a large bowl, combine milk, sugar, margarine, vanilla, ground cardamon, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, then beaten eggs, stirring until well blended.
  4. Add glazed mixed fruit, then gradually beat in flour.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead until smooth and satiny.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 2 hours.
  7. Punch down the dough.
  8. Divide the dough into 2 or 4 sections; place each into a well-greased can.
  9. Cover and let rise until doubled in size again.
