These soft, fluffy one-hour rolls feature a tender crumb and golden crust, perfect for breakfast, dinner sides, or special gatherings, appealing to bread lovers of all ages.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 cakes yeast

Instructions

  1. Mix butter, sugar, and salt into the scalded milk.
  2. Dissolve yeast in the lukewarm water.
  3. When the milk is lukewarm, add 2 cups of flour, then the yeast, then 2 more cups of flour.
  4. Cover the mixture and let it rise in a warm place for 15 minutes.
  5. Pinch off pieces of dough the size of a walnut and place 3 in each section of a greased muffin tin.
  6. Dip fingers in the remaining flour while shaping the dough.
  7. Let the formed rolls set until doubled in size, about 15 minutes.
  8. Bake at 400°F until golden brown.
  9. Brush with butter immediately after baking and remove from the tin.
