Saltine Candy is a rich, crunchy treat with buttery, caramelized layers topped with smooth chocolate, perfect for sharing at parties or as a sweet homemade gift.

Ingredients

  • saltine crackers
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 12 oz. chocolate bits

Instructions

  1. Line a jelly roll pan with foil.
  2. Arrange a single layer of saltine crackers on the foil.
  3. Melt 2 sticks of butter in a saucepan.
  4. Add 3/4 cup brown sugar to the melted butter and stir.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture over the saltines evenly.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and spread 12 oz. of chocolate bits over the hot caramel.
  9. Allow the chocolate to melt, then spread evenly over the surface.
  10. Place in the freezer until firm, then cut into pieces.
