Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground sausage
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. shredded American cheese
  • 3 oz. cream cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. dried marjoram leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. dried tarragon leaves
  • 30 wonton wrappers
  • vegetable oil
  • plum dipping sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat 4 inches of vegetable oil in a saucepan or deep-fryer to 350°F.
  2. Crumble the ground sausage into a large skillet; add chopped onion.
  3. Cook over medium heat until browned, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and drain drippings.
  5. Stir in shredded American cheese, cream cheese, dried marjoram, and dried tarragon; mix until cheeses melt and filling is combined.
  6. Lightly dampen a wonton wrapper by dipping your finger in water and wiping all edges to create a 1/4-inch border.
  7. Keep remaining wrappers covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.
  8. Place a rounded teaspoonful of sausage mixture in the center of each wrapper.
  9. Fold the wrapper over the filling to form a triangle, sealing edges and removing air bubbles.
  10. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  11. Fry the filled wontons in the hot oil until golden brown, about 1 minute per batch.
  12. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with plum dipping sauce.
