Ingredients

  • 1 large shell macaroni (No. 46)
  • 1 lb. sweet or hot sausage
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 qt. tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 qt. tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, pour olive oil and add diced onion; simmer until translucent.
  2. Add ground beef and sausage; cook until browned.
  3. Stir in tomato puree and tomato sauce; cook on low heat, covered, for about 2 hours.
  4. Cook shells as directed; drain and rinse with cold water.
  5. In a large baking dish, layer sauce, cheese, and shells alternately.
  6. Start with a layer of sauce at the bottom of the dish.
  7. Finish with a layer of sauce on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 40 minutes.
