Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. thinly sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. catsup
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard

Instructions

  1. Saute very lightly the sliced mushrooms and add them with their juice to the ground beef in a bowl.
  2. Mix the ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, bread crumbs, egg, catsup, soy sauce, and mustard gently.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a baking pan or casserole dish.
  4. Spread a layer of well-buttered mashed potatoes about 1/2-inch thick over the beef mixture.
  5. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 1 hour.
  6. Ensure the potato topping is crisp and golden.
  7. If necessary, raise the oven temperature for the last 10 minutes to achieve a crisp top.
