Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 slightly beaten eggs
  • 1 can milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl.
  2. Add shortening and mix until crumbly.
  3. Stir in beaten eggs and milk to form a dough.
  4. Refrigerate the dough overnight.
  5. Take pieces of dough about the size of a large marble.
  6. Roll each piece into a flat circle.
  7. Cut out large saucer-sized circles from the rolled dough.
  8. Place 1 1/2 tablespoons of very stiff filling onto one half of each circle.
  9. Brush water on half of the edge of the dough circle.
  10. Fold the dough over to enclose the filling.
  11. Crimp the edges together with a fork to seal.
  12. Deep fry the pies until golden brown.
