Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, and butter, working into fine crumbs. Keep out 1 1/2 cups of crumbs for topping.
  2. Mix boiling water, molasses, and baking soda until well combined.
  3. Add the remaining crumbs to the molasses mixture and mix well until the batter is thin.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured pan.
  5. Sprinkle the 1 1/2 cups of reserved crumbs on top.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
