Sweet cherry squares feature a buttery crust topped with cherry pie filling and a touch of vanilla, making them a delightful treat for dessert lovers and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and margarine at high speed until smooth.
  2. Add 1 egg at a time to the mixture at medium speed.
  3. Add vanilla, then flour, and mix well.
  4. Spread the batter into an ungreased 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan.
  5. Mark into 2-inch squares on the surface of the batter.
  6. Spoon 1 to 2 cherries from the pie filling into the center of each square.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes until light golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool, then cut into 2-inch squares.
