Ingredients

  • 2 medium potatoes, sliced
  • 2 medium carrots, sliced
  • 1/3 cup uncooked rice
  • 2 small onions, sliced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 quart canned tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Layer sliced potatoes, sliced carrots, uncooked rice, sliced onions, and ground beef in a greased 2-quart casserole dish, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper.
  3. Pour canned tomatoes over the layered ingredients.
  4. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top.
  5. Bake uncovered at 300°F (150°C) for 2 1/2 to 3 hours until cooked through and flavorful.
