  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • salt
  • pepper
  • little cayenne pepper
  • 12 tostada shells
  • 1 small cabbage

Instructions

  1. Cook hamburger meat and onion until done; drain excess fat.
  2. Add chili powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper; cook for a few minutes.
  3. Add Cheez Whiz and cook until melted and well combined.
  4. Spread meat mixture on flat tostada shells.
  5. Shred cabbage and sprinkle on top of meat.
  6. Place another tostada shell on top of the cabbage to assemble the sizzler.

Tips & Substitutions

For a spicier kick, consider adding diced jalapeños or using a hotter chili powder. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option. If you prefer a meatless version, try using refried beans instead of hamburger meat. Additionally, shredded lettuce can replace cabbage if you want a crunchier texture.

Serving Suggestions

Serve your sizzlers with a side of salsa or guacamole for added flavor. They also pair beautifully with delicious Taco Soup for a hearty meal. Consider adding a fresh salad or corn on the side to balance the richness of the dish.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover sizzlers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes until heated through. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the tostada shells soggy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these sizzlers ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the meat mixture in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Assemble the sizzlers just before serving to keep the tostada shells crisp. This makes for a quick assembly when you're ready to eat.

What can I use instead of Cheez Whiz?

If you're looking for a different cheese option, try using shredded cheddar or a cheese sauce made from scratch. Melted queso or even a vegan cheese alternative can also work well, adding a unique flavor to the sizzlers.

How can I make these sizzlers vegetarian?

To make vegetarian sizzlers, replace the hamburger meat with a mixture of black beans, lentils, or a meat substitute like textured vegetable protein (TVP). Season them similarly to maintain the flavor profile while keeping it meat-free.
