Slavic Cookies are delightful layered treats with apricot filling and crunchy nuts, perfect for festive occasions or as a sweet gift, offering a rich, fruity, and nutty flavor profile.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 (10 oz.) jar apricot filling
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until smooth.
  2. Gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks and blend well.
  4. Gradually add flour and mix well.
  5. Fold in chopped nuts.
  6. Put half of the batter in a greased 8-inch square pan and spread evenly.
  7. Spread apricot filling over the batter.
  8. Cover with the remaining batter and smooth the top.
  9. Bake in a 325°F (160°C) oven for 1 hour.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool.
  11. Cut into inch square pieces.
  12. Optional: sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
  13. Store in a tight container.
