Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon maple flavoring
  • pecans

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, soda, and salt; set aside.
  2. Cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add 1 egg and 1 egg yolk, beaten, to the mixture.
  4. Blend in vanilla and maple flavoring.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing thoroughly to form a soft dough.
  6. Arrange pecan halves in groups of 3 or 5 on a greased baking sheet to resemble turtle legs.
  7. Mold the dough into balls, then dip the bottom in unbeaten egg white and press into the pecans.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
